PLEASE NOTE: Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
In the morning, a guide and the mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel for a brief orientation. Subsequently, you will embark on a 3-4 hour journey by vehicle to Kilimanjaro National Park’s western entrance, Londorossi Gate (2,250 m / 7,380 ft). After securing climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will commence trekking toward the first camp on the route, Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m / 8,692 ft). Given the rainforest terrain, raincoats are essential on this day. Upon reaching the camp, the professional mountain crew will have everything prepared, tents pitched, and lunch underway. Post-lunch, an acclimatization hike towards Shira 1 Camp, involving a 300-meter (984-foot) altitude gain, will take place, followed by a descent to Mti Mkubwa Camp for a hearty dinner.
PLEASE NOTE: The acclimatization hike aids in the acclimatization process, significantly enhancing the chances of a successful Kilimanjaro ascent and mitigating altitude sickness risks.
As it’s your first day at this altitude, adhere to the following guidelines:
– Refrain from consuming alcohol and caffeine.
– Hydrate with over 4 liters of bottled water daily, sipped frequently.
– Consider using preventive measures like high-altitude aid medicine to alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness; consult your doctor beforehand for potential allergies or health concerns.
Nighttime may bring discomfort due to acclimatization to high altitude. Your body receives less oxygen during reduced nighttime breathing, potentially causing sickness or headaches. Be attentive to your body and inform your guide of any symptoms of altitude sickness.

Embark on an exciting journey as you leave Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m / 11,843 ft) and trek towards the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m / 12,628 ft). This trek, offering stunning views of the African savannah, the unique flora of Kilimanjaro, and the surrounding area, is not challenging. Shira 2 Camp provides the perfect vantage point, weather permitting, to witness Mount Meru, the fifth summit of Africa and the second-highest in Tanzania.
En route, our guides will present the opportunity to ascend Cathedral Peak – 3872 meters (12,703 feet), one of the highest points of the extinct Shira volcano. Aside from the captivating hiking experience, reaching the summit of Cathedral Peak on a clear day affords breathtaking views into the valley, a favorite among our team after a decade of working on the mountain. This straightforward hike, free of technical challenges, may encounter clouds, but a stella provides a chance for a memorable photograph. Opting to skip this ascent or heading directly to Shira 2 in case of unfavorable weather is feasible without impacting acclimatization since both locations stand at a similar elevation. However, we passionately recommend the hike to Cathedral Peak for its worth.
Upon arrival at Shira 2 Camp, enjoy lunch, and after a two-hour rest, partake in an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, featuring a 300 m / 984 ft gain in altitude.

Following breakfast, depart from Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m / 12,628 ft) and proceed towards the pivotal point of the route: Lava Tower (4,600 m / 15,088 ft). This segment involves numerous ascents and descents culminating in a camp situated above 4,600 m / 15,088 ft. Certain sections of the trek may pose challenges, and you may experience some discomfort. However, spending at least 1–2 hours at this altitude is crucial for successful acclimatization, making it the ideal spot for your lunch break.
Subsequently, descend to Barranco Camp (3,900 m / 12,795 ft), where the renowned Barranco Wall awaits, striking in both its massive size and steepness! While you’ll be conquering it the next day, rest assured that it features a straightforward hiking trail that is far from intimidating.
Commence your day with an early start and a hearty breakfast before tackling the Barranco Wall. To ensure an unhurried ascent, we advise an early departure from the camp, avoiding potential crowds from other groups. The climb up the gorge wall is relatively straightforward and takes approximately an hour. Upon conquering the ascent, take a well-deserved rest and capture photos with the impressive backdrop of the Kibo volcano.
Following this, embark on a more challenging hike to Karanga Camp, characterized by various ascents and descents along the route. Fear not, as our expert guides excel in determining an optimal pace for the group. Upon reaching Karanga Camp, savor a warm lunch. After a couple of hours, engage in an acclimatization hike towards Barafu Camp, featuring a 200 m / 656 ft gain in altitude, followed by a descent back to the camp.
After indulging in a warm and satisfying breakfast, your ascent towards Barafu Summit Camp begins. This camp marks the pivotal starting point for the ultimate night summit to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m /19,336 f) – your ultimate destination. Our dedicated team ensures that the camp is fully set up before your arrival, with tents and sleeping bags ready, allowing you to unwind and rejuvenate upon reaching Barafu Summit Camp. It’s advisable to utilize the remaining daylight hours for much-needed rest and sleep before embarking on the night summit.
At nightfall, your group will set out from Barafu Camp (4,673 m /15,327 f) for the ultimate summit push towards Kilimanjaro’s highest point – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m /19,336 f). While technically straightforward, the ascent can feel taxing due to the altitude, requiring vigilance over physical exertion. To ensure utmost safety and support, each pair of climbers will be accompanied by a personal guide throughout the ascent, closely monitoring their well-being. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, the pinnacle of Mount Kilimanjaro and the climax of the Lemosho Route, adventurers can opt to descend to the nearby glacier before returning to Barafu Camp for a brief 2-hour rest. Following this, the journey continues with a descent to Millenium Camp (3,950 m /12,956 f).
Kindly note:
It’s crucial to remain vigilant during the descent, as a majority of accidents, including toe injuries, occur during this phase.
Nestled within a lush tropical rainforest, Millenium Camp offers a serene backdrop as you awaken, greeted by a sense of relief from the descent and the exhilaration of summit success. Following a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on the journey towards the park’s exit: Mweka Gate (1,640 m /5,379 f). Upon arrival, the entire group will gather to extend heartfelt congratulations, inviting you to share your reflections on the climb in the guestbook. Concluding the memorable adventure, you’ll be presented with commemorative certificates at our office before being chauffeured back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Relax at the hotel before transferring to the airport.

Lemosho Route FAQ
The climb is moderately challenging but achievable for average individuals in decent shape. It is particularly suitable for beginners, boasting high success rates.
The 8-day Lemosho route covers approximately 70 km (43 miles), while the 6 and 7-day variations span around 56 km (35 miles), positioning Lemosho in between other Kilimanjaro routes in terms of length.
The 8-day variation starts at Londorossi Gate (2250m), while the 6-7 day options begin with a vehicle drop-off at 3,414m on the Shira Plateau.
- The 7-day itinerary begins at 3,414m, accelerating your acclimatization process. While this offers more time at altitude, some hikers may find the rapid ascent uncomfortable. The initial two days involve relatively easy hikes.
- In contrast, the 8-day route starts at 2,100m, featuring a more challenging first day. However, starting at a lower altitude allows for gradual acclimatization and an enjoyable hike through the rainforest. Both routes are recommended for climbers of all levels, offering excellent acclimatization profiles and summit success rates of over 90%.
- The Lemosho 8-day route and Northern Circuit 8 provide stunning scenery and favorable acclimatization profiles. The Northern Circuit offers views of Kilimanjaro from all sides but is generally considered less scenic due to lower rainfall and less diverse vegetation.
- The Northern Circuit is less crowded and better suited for hikers with greater endurance. It also offers the option to bypass the Barranco Wall. Both routes offer excellent acclimatization and accessibility without technical skills.
Yes, the Lemosho route goes via the Barranco Wall. Despite its appearance, many climbers navigate it successfully, including seniors, without significant difficulty.
